Quickstart: your first study

This page keeps the original quickstart task: create a study, get it ready, and know what launch does and does not do. The walkthrough for that task is Your first study. Use that tutorial. This page is the short map, not a second one.

The tutorial is for the person who will be the principal investigator. A coordinator does not launch. A methodologist starts at Consensus analytics.

What you are trying to finish​

You are done with the quickstart when the study is past draft, round 1 exists and is not open, and no invitation has been sent by the launch itself. Inviting people, and opening the round, are later tasks.

The order that matters​

  1. Create a draft. Creating the study lists it under Drafts. That action does not launch the study and does not send an invitation. The steps are in Start a new study.
  2. Finish the ten ready steps. Setup counts ten steps toward ready. Review & launch comes after them and is not one of the ten. The tutorial names each step. The screen map is Study setup.
  3. Launch. Only the principal investigator sees Launch study. The confirm control is Launch. Launch creates the planned rounds and moves the study out of draft. Round 1 is being prepared. Later rounds are planned. Launch does not send an invitation, and it does not open a round. What launch freezes is only on the governed study record.
  4. Invite, then enroll. An invitation is a separate message. Enrollment is a separate action on the person's record. Neither one is launch. See Panel management.
  5. Open round 1. The principal investigator approves the round. The principal investigator or the coordinator then opens it. Panelists can answer only after it is open. See Running rounds.
Important

A draft is not a launch. A launch is not an invitation. An invitation is not an open round.

If something will not move​

When a study will not move is the check for a blocked launch, an invitation that stays queued, and a round that will not open.
