Roles and access
Give each person one or more study seats on Study team, and read "What each role can do" on that page for the list the server enforces.
Who can open this: Principal investigator, Steering committee (full access)
Who this is for
The principal investigator manages the study team. A seat who can open the page and cannot change it sees "Only a principal investigator can change the team." A change submitted anyway is refused with "You do not have permission to do that." The seats you can tick are "Principal investigator", "Steering committee (full access)", "Steering confirmer", "Coder", "Adjudicator", "Biostatistics", and "Coordinator". A person may hold several at once. The capability table says "A person with several roles can do everything any of them can. The server checks the same table on every request." What each seat can do is the table on Study team, not a copy here.
Steering committee (full access) can open Study team and read it. "Add a team member" is not shown, and the "Roles" checkboxes are disabled, because only the principal investigator manages the team. Steering confirmer, Coder, Adjudicator, Biostatistics, and Coordinator do not open Study team. The app shows its not-found page.
A Coordinator does not launch the study, and does not open Reports or Reporting. Reporting is the screen name of the export page. Reports is the screen for the study's result files, and the round stage named Results uses that same access. After the principal investigator has approved a round, a Coordinator may use "Open this round". A Coordinator may use "Close collection". Opening still requires that approval. There is no auditor seat.
A workspace role is not study authority. Workspace settings lists "Admin", "Member", and "Viewer". That screen says "People who belong to this workspace. Admins manage it; members get the permissions you tick; viewers can look but hold none. The last four columns decide which Workspace settings sections a member can open. A person's role inside one study is set separately on that study's Team page." An organization admin who is not on the study team holds none of the round moves.
Steps
- Open Study team from the study's sidebar. The page title is "Study team".
- Under "Add a team member", choose "Person" ("Choose a workspace member") and "Role", then use "Add to the team". The role list uses the seat names above. If everyone is already on the team, the form says "Everyone in the workspace is already on this team." On a saved study the line is "They are emailed that they were added." On a sample study it is "Nothing is sent to them yet: let them know yourself."
- Someone who is not in the workspace is added by an administrator under "Workspace settings, Members & roles". Give them Admin, Member, or Viewer there, then add them on this study's team with a study seat.
- Open the person and tick "Roles". Each box is one seat from the list above. The server keeps at least one principal investigator: "The study needs a principal investigator. Add another before changing this role."
- Open "What each role can do". That table is the list. It is the same table the server checks.
- "Who confirms what the rules decided" is "The principal investigator or Biostatistics" or "Biostatistics only". The second hint says "Keeps the duties apart: the person who designed the study does not confirm what its rules decided. Once the study is launched this cannot be undone." On a study that keeps the duties apart, pairing the principal investigator with Steering committee (full access) is refused with "This study keeps the duties apart, so its principal investigator cannot also sit on the steering committee." Pairing them with Biostatistics or Steering confirmer is refused with "This study keeps the duties apart, so its principal investigator cannot also hold Biostatistics or Steering confirmer."
What the app will not do
A workspace Admin, Member, or Viewer does not gain a study move by that workspace role. Study authority is the seats on this page. The app will not leave a study without a principal investigator. A closed study refuses team changes with "This study is closed, so its team can no longer be changed." The matrix of what each seat can do stays on Study team. It is not reprinted here.
